Jaguar Type 01: The New Era of Jaguar Is Almost Here

Jaguar’s next chapter is getting closer—and we now have our clearest look yet at the vehicle that will lead the way.

The Jaguar Type 01 is an all-electric, four-door luxury grand tourer and the first production vehicle to emerge from Jaguar’s dramatic reinvention. After months of camouflaged prototypes, testing and previews, Jaguar has now revealed the Type 01’s interior and confirmed that the vehicle will make its full global debut in New York on October 6, 2026.

And for Jaguar fans in Omaha, the big question is becoming less about if the Type 01 is coming and more about when we’ll get to see one at ONYX Automotive and Jaguar Omaha.

Here’s what we know.

From Type 00 Concept to Type 01

The story began with the striking Jaguar Type 00 concept—a vehicle designed to preview Jaguar’s completely new design philosophy.

Now, that vision is moving toward production.

Type 01 is the first production Jaguar created under the brand’s new creative direction. Its dramatic proportions, long hood, low roofline and sculpted profile show clear connections to the Type 00 while translating the concept into a four-door grand touring vehicle.

Jaguar has also explained the meaning behind the name:

  • “Type” references legendary Jaguar models of the past.
  • “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions.
  • “1” signifies the first vehicle of Jaguar’s new generation.

In other words, Type 01 isn’t simply a new Jaguar model. It’s intended to introduce an entirely new era for the brand.

Our First Official Look Inside the Jaguar Type 01

One of the biggest updates arrived in August 2026 when Jaguar officially revealed the Type 01 interior for the first time.

And it looks unlike the cabin of just about any other luxury vehicle.

Rather than designing the interior around a traditional horizontal dashboard, Jaguar emphasizes the length of the Type 01 with a dramatic central spine running through the cabin, creating four individual spaces for occupants.

The driver sits low in a GT-style driving position, while the interior combines flowing surfaces with materials and finishes inspired by travertine stone, artisan textiles and brass.

Jaguar has also taken a more restrained approach to technology. Instead of filling the dashboard with screens, technology is integrated into the architecture and designed to appear when needed.

Among the features Jaguar has shown are:

  • A slim, minimalist dashboard
  • A full-length central spine separating the four seating areas
  • Brass-inspired finishes
  • A centrally positioned digital ClearSight Rear View Display
  • Concealed compartments
  • Hidden-until-needed technology
  • Distinctive Jaguar Leaper details
  • A low, driver-focused GT seating position

The result is an interior designed to feel more like a carefully crafted luxury space than a conventional EV cockpit.

Performance Designed to Compete Built on an All-New Jaguar EV Platform

Underneath the Type 01 is something equally important.

This will be the first production Jaguar built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA.

The platform was developed specifically for Jaguar rather than adapting an existing gasoline-powered vehicle architecture. That gives Jaguar greater freedom with the Type 01’s proportions, driving characteristics, interior layout and overall design.

Jaguar says the dedicated platform allows the brand to take an entirely new approach to vehicle dynamics and the occupant experience.

Tested Around the World

Jaguar isn’t taking shortcuts when it comes to developing its new flagship.

The Type 01 has been part of what Jaguar calls the most comprehensive vehicle development program in its history.

Approximately 150 prototypes have undergone testing covering hundreds of thousands of miles, including extreme cold-weather development in the Arctic Circle where temperatures reached approximately -40 degrees.

Testing has focused on everything from electric propulsion and chassis systems to ride comfort, handling and range optimization.

The Type 01 prototype has also started appearing publicly.

In July, it tackled the famous hillclimb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed wearing its lightest camouflage yet. Then in August, the Type 01 made its North American public debut during Monterey Car Week, culminating with an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Each appearance has given us a slightly clearer look at what the final production vehicle will become.

What About Performance and Range?

Jaguar is positioning the Type 01 as a true luxury grand tourer rather than simply another electric sedan.

Early reports surrounding the vehicle have pointed toward a high-performance electric drivetrain, significant horsepower and long-distance driving capability.

However, Jaguar has not yet released the complete final U.S. production specifications.

That means figures surrounding horsepower, torque, EPA-rated driving range, battery capacity, charging speeds and acceleration should still be considered preliminary until Jaguar officially confirms them.

Fortunately, we won’t have much longer to wait.

When Will the Jaguar Type 01 Be Fully Revealed?

This part is now official.

Jaguar will reveal the Type 01 in New York on October 6, 2026.

The reveal should finally give us our first completely undisguised look at the exterior along with additional production specifications, technology information and potentially more details about pricing and availability.

It will also mark one of Jaguar’s most important vehicle introductions in decades.

When Will the Jaguar Type 01 Arrive at Dealerships?

This is the question we’re especially excited about here in Omaha.

Jaguar has not yet announced an official U.S. dealership arrival date for the Type 01. Based on the current development and reveal timeline, the first customer vehicles are expected to begin arriving in 2027.

Exact timing, U.S. availability and individual dealership allocations have not yet been announced.

As Jaguar releases additional information following the October 6 reveal, we’ll have a much clearer picture of when customers can expect to see the Type 01 in showrooms.

What Will the Jaguar Type 01 Cost?

Official U.S. pricing has not yet been announced.

The Type 01 is being positioned considerably higher in the luxury market than Jaguar’s previous mainstream models, reflecting the brand’s move toward a more exclusive segment.

Rather than speculate on a final starting price, we’ll be watching Jaguar’s October reveal for official pricing and trim information.

Why the Type 01 Matters

There have been plenty of new Jaguar models throughout the brand’s history.

The Type 01 is different.

It represents a reset.

From its dedicated electric architecture and dramatic new styling to its unconventional four-seat interior, Jaguar isn’t attempting to simply update what it has done before.

The company is creating something entirely new.

Whether you’re already sold on Jaguar’s new direction or you’re still deciding what you think, one thing is certain: the Type 01 is going to get attention.

And on October 6, 2026, we’ll finally get to see the finished product.
